Gyula Konkoly, one of the best-known members of the ’Iparterv’ generation of neo-avantgarde pioneers, boasting a rich and diverse oeuvre, returned to figurative painting after the most varied experiments in avantgarde and neo-avantgarde visualisation. “When the 21st century arrived, it turned out that I wasn’t the only one who’d had enough of the doctrinaire academism that had comfortably prevailed, and we started to paint with a pure heart. This is giving birth to an accessible, joyful new art”, he said on one occasion. His large oil paintings include landscapes, nudes and scenes created with a virtuosic technique. This exhibition showcases a representative selection of his work from the past eight years.
