An exhibition of the Derkovits Fellowship awardees

in the Ernst Museum

This annual display of works by young artists goes probably furthest among Budapest exhibitions to prove the diversity of contemporary art. Hosted by Ernst Museum, the event has become a regular forum for the young awardees of the fellowship. The purpose of the one-year grant has remained the same since its establishment in 1955: to help the artistic development of young artists at the beginning of their careers, enabling them to create quality works that are modern both in form and content. During its more than five-decade long history, the grant has been awarded to several artists who are now classics, among them to Tibor Csernus (1955), Tamás Konok (1957), Lajos Sváby (1963), Károly Klimó (1965), Árpád Szabados (1970), Zoltán Tölg-Molnár (1971), Ferenc Banga (1974), Dezső Váli (1977), El Kazovszkij (1980), Imre Bukta (1981), Erzsébet Vojnich (1982), János Szirtes (1984), Gábor Roskó (1985), Zoltán Ádám (1986), András Bernát (1987), Balázs Kicsiny (1988), Éva Köves (1989), Ágnes Németh (1993) and Tibor Várnagy (1999).
