Irokéz" Collection from Szombathely

The fact that a group of works of art has become an art collection is marked by the publishing of a catalogue and this exhibition where, for the first time, the works owned by Gábor Pados and Zsolt Pajor, now known as the IROKÉZ Collection, are exhibited together. This book reviews the past eleven years and at the same time shows the directions in which this collection is expanding. These works are products of an exactly defined section of contemporary Hungarian art, and show the taste of the collectors as well as their commitment to a specific culture. The fact that the works are a collection now will alter the motifs for collecting and also the status of the works themselves. The appearance of the collection does not designate a clear boundary between its past and future, but it outlines a new situation: the transformation of the interconnected relationships among the artists, their works and the collectors. This new situation is originated in the shifting of the institutional frame of art, as a new agent is added to the frame defining the social status of the art product: a continuously developing collection also influences its symbolic and financial value. Obviously, the IROKÉZ Collection is not the only collection in Hungary today that comprises contemporary works of art, however it is unique as far as the collected works and the circle of their creators are concerned. The works of the members of the former Újlak group: Zoltán Ádám, Gábor Farkas, Tamás Komoróczky, András Ravasz and Péter Szarka as well as those of András Braun and Hajnal Németh and also those of László Haffner, János Korodi András, Szigeti and Csaba Uglár can found in the collection.
