Applied Arts

Millennial exhibition series in Mucsarnok

curated by Zsuzsa Pannonhalmi and Mariann Mayer A new exhibition on the applied arts must take into consideration the fact that a comprehensive show of this kind - aiming to present all fields in the applied arts: interior design, architectural design, goldsmith´s art, textile art, ceramics, glass art, restoration, stage and visual effects design -has not been put on in Hungary for the past decade. The exhibition is meant to- -Be an acknowledgement of objective reality as determined by the socio-economic conditions of the turn of the century. -Represent those intellectual achievements within the applied arts which in the present economic conditions cannot be realized. -Illustrate the vitality and energy present in the applied arts, with which they often produce the formal equivalents of novel ideas earlier than the traditional fine arts. The rich and varied set of exhibits will be divided into three sections according to function and creative intention: design, applied and autonomous sections. Each group will follow the changes and developments apparent in the ideas and techniques of that particular field, and offer a wide range of approaches and expressions. 250-300 works will be on display in the halls of Mucsarnok. Selection will be based on a competition, while some artists will be invited to contribute. A matching catalogue will also be published. Parallel with the exhibition, professional events will be organized (clothes show, conferences, etc.).
