Unfolded boksz

Exhibition of Ágnes Eperjesi, Pál Gerber, Endre Koronczi and Gyula Várnai

Curated by Zsolt Petrányi Supported by Witeg-Koporc Kft., Zalakrámia Rt., Fiatalok Fotómuvészeti Stúdiója In the recent years the number of artworks using computer and photography has grown. These pieces, presenting ´reality´ similarly to commercials and other fields on the borderline of visual arts, focus on the philosophical idea of ´image´ as well as on the carrier of the message. The concept of the Unfolded box exhibition was outlined by Endre Koronczi; he became aware of the lack of objects (the sources of any kind of representation) in this actual artistic phenomenon. Things reduced to two dimensions unavoidably lose their expansion and character: the aim of this exhibition is to demonstrate the connection between images/pictures and their sources by means of some relevant examples from the contemporary art scene. The works of the four participating artists (Ágnes Eperjesi, Pál Gerber, Endre Koronczi and Gyula Várnai) do not deny the connection with objects, moreover, objects are organically involved in the process of creation. The artists find their means of expression in surrealistic relationships (Pál Gerber), in the linking of work and function (Ágnes Eperjesi), in the interaction of objects in usage (Endre Koronczi) and the transformation of picture-object relationship to a totally different medium, to sound (Gyula Várnai). The poetical title of the show refers to the spatial extension of objects, but simultaneously contradicting to it draws the attention to the content and the pictorial characteristics of the works. The show is about the language of visual arts. The co-operation of the curator and the artists is based on common thinking, in course of which the final appearance of the works is continuously influenced and modified by professional debates and criticism.
