Patches

Paintings of Zoltán Hermann

Curated by Zsuzsa Megyesi In counterpoint to the drawings and paintings made with traditional techniques, since 1995 I have been creating compositions by sticking sheets of papers (specially used for grinding colours and mopping paint) onto wall size canvases. The "patchy" papers are applied either directly after use or modified by tearing, overpainting and covering them. The works presented in this show are characterized by the direct use of patchy papers and the theme inspired composition. The white spaces between the "stones" of Wall manifest rays of hope of clutching and signs of the chances of getting through. The patchy sheets of Code as sets of information suggest continuity, while the empty sets offer the chances of intervention. I tried to express the dualit"y of the definable and the unidefinable by the work Grid." Zoltán Hermann
