Cafe "Rózsa

Organized by Éva Körner and Péter Orosz The name "Rózsa Circle" denotes a generation of artists, now in their mid-forties or fifties, who studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Art in the first half of the seventies as well as a group of young avant-gardists, who, by joining them, were active participants in a series of events organized in the nearby Cafe "Rózsa" and other exhibition spaces such as the International student Club, The MOM Cultural Center, the Bercsényi Student Hostel, the Ganz Mávag Cultural Center and the Culture House in Budaörs. These events were organized in the spirit of the Fluxus movement and took place in 1975-76. These artists who were then art students, today have become relevant international artists. Here is a list of a few of them in alphabetical order: Dénes Bogdány, Orsolya Drozdik, György Fazekas, László Fehér, András Halász, György Galántai, Zsigmond Károlyi, Károly Kelemen, András Koncz, András Lengyel, Péter Sarkadi, Erno Tolvaly and others. Other, more established and mature artists of the avant-garde, such as Miklós Erdély, Ákos Birkás, Tibor Hajas and the film-maker Gábor Bódy also joined the group and actively participated in its events. Their presence invoked a judgement of the new generation inasmuch as it hailed and acknowledged their appearance.
