Reality, Paradox, Utopia

Curated by Csaba Kozák This exhibition presents the work of sixteen young contemporary French artists with the ambition of reflecting upon their different relationships with architecture. Mucsarnok will host the works of three generations of artists starting with the formalists, who, not without some irony, appropriate the banalities of architecture in order to turn them upside down, presenting them in a new context. Such instances are exemplified by the isolations of Lavier, the hypertrophies of Portalis and Leccia, the imitations of Petit and the analyses of Buren, thus offering the paradoxes of reality. There seems to be more difference between the onirists, who create worlds inside history (Lacoste, Droguet), mythology (Gette), fairy tales (Sarkis), scripture (Papapietro), provocation (Meynier) and irony (Trenet) and relate these by constant repetition: this is the "reality of utopias". Exhibiting artists: Christian Boltanski, Lilian Bourgeat, Daniel Buren, Philippe Drouget, Paul-Armand Gette, Dominique Lacoste, Bertrand Lavier, Ange Leccia, Frédéric Meynier, Mathilde Papapietro, Jean-Michel Petit, Ghislaine Portalis, Sarkis, Didier Trenet, Jacques Vieille, Bruno Yvonnet
