Exhibition of András Koncz

Curated by Csaba Kozák András Koncz is prominent representative of the middle generation of contemporary painting. He graduated from the Hungarian Academy of Arts in 1980 and in the same year he participated in founding the circle of artists in the Rózsa bar. Koncz has been awarded with several Hungarian and international prizes. His works are part of several collections and he has had numerous solo and group exhibitions within Hungary and abroad. His work is passionate, often times erotic, narrative, implying cultural meaning, raising provocative associations and sometimes aggressive. The narrative always takes different roles, beside the "heroes" of ordinary life one will find elements of such giants of painting such as Giorgio de Chirico, El Greco, Picasso. Wallpaper patterns from the French baroque or the ornaments of upholstery do not represent decoration in his paintings made in the 90s but rather a network that becomes a major element in which the texture of gothic letters are a stage for belly dancers; athletes with impeccable bodies familiar from the gymnastics and sports cults of the 20s and 30s as well as 50s might be representatives of the working class movement or of fascism.
