Through his works, Dargay reveals to us the order and harmony of nature, of the microcosm and the macrocosm, which – he is convinced – can be made visible through geometric forms and structures. His works, testifying to the constructive presence of a person seeking the order of the cosmos, train the viewer to be receptive to this harmony, to the classical belief that there is a pure and perfect order in the “edifice” of the universe that can be visually mirrored, an order that can be recognized, understood, received, and realized on individual and communal levels alike.
The classical ideal of “the beautiful and the good” has been present in the history of creative art since antiquity, recurring in ways adapted to each era. It is enchanting to see how this becomes manifest in modern art and in Dargay’s oeuvre as well. By way of lines, lights, shadows, images, and reflections, Calocagathia, nature, and the “better angel of human nature” can justify the message of Lajos Dargay’s works to the visitors of this exhibition.
