International Light Symposium

Lecture Hall
10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on 7 March and 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on 8 March The International Light Symposia were called to life by Attila Csáji in 1993. On his initiative, the participants of the 1996 symposium founded the International Kepes Society whose creation was greatly helped by the Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in particular light artist Paul Earls. Organised on a regular basis since that time, the light symposia discuss co-operation possibilities of science and art. The symposia aim to maintain a fruitful dialogue between the humanities and technology by presenting the results of artistic research. The 2015 International Light Symposium is highlighted by the fact that it is the first artistic event in Hungary of UNESCO’s International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies, where the members of the Society will this time appear to a broad professional audience. The Symposium will be dedicated to the memory of recently-deceased artist Otto Piene (1928–2014) who succeeded György Kepes as head of the CAVS.
