Our Heritage Evoked a fashion exhibition of Margit Madarász Kathy

The textile works of Margit Kathy Madarász, the Ferenczy Noémi prize and Zilahy György prize laureate artist, display a combination of imagination and tradition. Her fashion designs, all made of natural material, visualise the feminine principles and artistic motifs of various periods of the Hungarian history. Most of the ornamental elements are inspired by Transylvanian folk art, but motifs of many other regions and ages also appear on her works. Owing to their design, the garments may serve as perfectly comfortable casual wear, but their delicate material, sophisticated appearance, their visual world packed with symbols, as well as their colour combinations (white-gold, red-black, black-gold) make them more appropriate for special events.
By reflecting the fashions and visual cultures of various ages in the past whilst addressing us here, in the present, the garments and other textile works of the artist visualising the world of Transylvanian noble women allow us to take an imaginative journey into our past.
